Professional Expertise

Sylvia is an accredited Feng Shui Master Consultant with three decades of expertise, practicing traditional Chinese Feng Shui and Feng Shui Design Aesthetics. She is an affiliate member of the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) and the Landscape Institute (LI),  a member of the Urban Design Group, qualified interior designer and subtle environment surveyor.

Prior to establishing her consultancy Feng Shui Living in 1994, Sylvia spent ten years studying the authentic foundations of Feng Shui in Hong Kong whilst director of an international trading company, She then undertook extensive professional Feng Shui training with three eminent Chinese Masters - Yap Cheng Hai, Joseph Yu and Peter Leung.  Additional studies with Master Raymond Lo, Lillian Too and Joey Yap broadened her expertise.

Since 2006 she has been teaching students with Master Howard Choy, the world-renowned classical Feng Shui expert, architect and principal of ECOFS. She holds a City & Guilds Adult Education Teaching Diploma and has facilitated external mentoring for PhD.& Masters degree students at Sheffield University’s School of Architecture.

During four years from 1998 - 2002 Sylvia took the leading role in incorporating the Prince’s Foundation for Integrated Health guidelines for lead body self-regulation to create ethical UK professional practice standards for Feng Shui, in recognition of which she was awarded Honorary Life Fellowship of the Feng Shui Society. Sylvia also founded the Global Feng Shui Alliance and initiated World Feng Shui Day, held on the 5th February annually, in collaboration with the president / CEO of the Australian and American lead professional Feng Shui organisations.

Sylvia also practices Vastu Shastra, the Indian parallel to Feng Shui. Having studied with an Indian expert twenty five years ago, she became a professional colleague of the Vastu advisor to the Indian High Commission in the UK. Her consulting projects include Vastu implementation in new build projects and property renovations, providing guidelines for existing homes and advising on suitable locations for Pooja rooms and Mandirs. She specialises in combining Vastu consulting with Feng Shui, as they work compatibly together in synergy to create auspicious living places that generate harmony for the occupants.

Career Background & Interests

Having a career background in property development and refurbishments and interior architectural design, international business management, fashion and textiles merchandising, hospitality and healthcare all contribute valuably to optimise the breadth and effectiveness of Sylvia’s Feng Shui expertise. Her other professional qualifications are in interior design, colour therapeutics, motivational counselling, aromatherapy, naturopathic nutritional healthcare and environmental practices. Sylvia’s interests span biophillic urban design, garden landscaping and planting, jazz, dancing, snorkelling, walking and exploring,  abstract and floral oil painting, being positive, finding creative solutions, meeting people and enjoying her family life. She is married with three grown up children and two young grandchildren. 

Major Commissions

Regularly commissioned to participate in major projects, Sylvia notably provided Feng Shui landscape guidelines for the new London’s Earls Court urban redevelopment master plan. Whilst a Plymouth Architectural Trust committee member, she was involved in the initial scheme for the future regeneration for Plymouth’s town centre. She participated in the steering group for the BRE (Building Research Establishment) project to provide wellbeing guidelines for architecture, design and retro-construction in offices. 

The iconic London Taxi Company engaged Sylvia’s Feng Shui consulting skills in collaboration with their architect to create a stunning building facade, reception entrance and landscape features for their state-of-the-art new LEVC electric vehicle production facility at Ansty. The Chinese Works of Art department at Christie’s, the renowned global auction house, engaged Sylvia’s Feng Shui expertise at a major Oriental sale event. Since 2015 she is the ongoing in-house Feng Shui consultant for the prestigious Knightsbridge Apartments residential management company.

Amongst the commercial clients Sylvia has consulted for are architects, designers and property developers, dental and healthcare practices, lawyers' offices, Canary Wharf trading floors, hotels, restaurants and retail outlets.

Her residential consulting projects span from a 16,000 ft2 mansion and apartments in prestigious Chelsea Barracks and the Corniche, Foster+ Partners development on London's South embankment, through to modest suburban homes and studio flats.

Presentations & Articles

Having lectured on Feng Shui and its associated disciplines at the University of Westminster Built Environment Faculty and at the Royal Society of Medicine, Sylvia presents talks, seminars and workshops to professional groups and the public. Her consulting work, interviews and article contributions and have been featured in the national press and in international lifestyle magazines, on CNN and the BBC.  She was consultant author for a Russian Feng Shui magazine series and was the Feng Shui columnist for a European property publication for several years.

Since so much has been written on the subject of Feng Shui, Sylvia’s focus in her own Blog Page highlights various environmental topics that make an impact on the health and wellbeing of lives of individuals. and have a meaningful link to Feng Shui principles and Feng Shui design.
